| These
photos are as a result of a visit to the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance on the
15th May 2009, to present a cheque for £900.00 which was raised
by Osiris Lodge 5780 during its Ladies Night hosted by President W Bro
Rhys Madoc and his lady wife Josie.
The Photos are showing three Motor
cycles owned by members of the Widows Sons Motorcycle Association who also attended
the ladies night. The crew of the flight provided us with tea and biscuits
and were very helpful in explaining all the aspects of the flight. The Doctor
came from Australia where she had been part of the flying Doctors. The Paramedic
told me that apart from looking like Brad Pit he was one of 56 applicants from
the NHS and that his physical fitness and weight were important considerations
as the medical packs weight 26kgs each, he and the Doctor would also act as the
navigator. It became obvious to me that anyone with a Masonic girth would not
be able to get into the cockpit. The pilot explained that the Helicopter was
a Macdonald Douglas twin turbine engine producing 600 shaft bhp per engine with
a speed of 170mph. The position of the air field meant that when they were
on a JOB they could get to almost everywhere in Herts within 20mins and that they
would have a call sign which gave them priority over every other flight on there
flight path, which meant that recently they flew directly over Luton Air port
and an Easy Jet had to go around to let them through. The monthly cost of the
operation is £80K which means they can operate from 8am to 4pm Monday to
Friday to operate 7am to 7pm would cost £120k. W.Bro John Snelgrove
